Right to Protection Joined the Alliance for Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Recovery in Ukraine

June 24, 2024

Right to Protection joined the Alliance for Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Recovery in Ukraine, which Ukraine launched during the URC2024 in Berlin.

The Alliance is a joint initiative of government, international organisations, civil society and the business community. Its goal is to join forces in implementing existing and launching new initiatives aimed at introducing gender-responsive approaches to the reconstruction process, as well as promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in Ukraine.

Over 50 representatives of various countries, organisations, and structures have already joined the Alliance, including the governments of Ukraine, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Japan, France, the UK, Latvia, Estonia, and others. They also included the European Commission, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, UN agencies, USAID, national and international organisations, business communities, etc.

Alliance members commit to working together to integrate a gender perspective into funding, projects and programmes aimed at rebuilding Ukraine, to ensure women's effective participation in decision-making at all levels for recovery and reconstruction, and to help identify and address the priority needs of women and girls through the implementation of gender-responsive planning tools.

R2P, as a member of the Alliance, will contribute to increasing support for Ukraine's gender-sensitive recovery by

  • providing psychological support to women affected by the war;
  • promoting women's economic independence;
  • implementing leadership training programmes for women;
  • improving mechanisms for responding to and supporting survivors of gender-based violence;
  • strengthening social cohesion by facilitating dialogues aimed at overcoming gender conflicts;
  • conducting joint advocacy and research on the prevention and overcoming the consequences of conflict-related sexual violence;
  • implementing the Growing Together initiative, which supports internally displaced women with children.

We look forward to working together productively within the Alliance to achieve Ukraine's gender-sensitive and inclusive recovery.
