Right to Dignity: Care for Ukraine’s Most Vulnerable

December 18, 2025

More than three years of war in Ukraine have deepened the vulnerability of those in the most fragile circumstances. Many older people were forced to leave their homes or remain in the frontline communities, grieving lost loved ones, isolated due to limited mobility, and bearing the psychological burdens of conflict. The social protection system is stretched to its limits, and the need for help grows every day.

In response to this challenge, R2P started the Right to Dignity campaign on the GlobalGiving platform.

As the Christmas season approaches — a time usually associated with family, warmth, and togetherness — thousands of older people in Ukraine face the holidays alone. For those who have lost loved ones, been displaced, or can no longer leave their homes, Christmas can intensify feelings of loneliness and abandonment. Your support during this time is not only practical help, but also a reminder that they are not forgotten.

Our social workers provide regular home care visits to older people in the frontline and the war-affected communities:

  • help with cooking and cleaning;
  • accompaniment to medical appointments;
  • access to medicines, hygiene items, and rehabilitation aids;
  • emotional support and companionship.

More than 2,600 vulnerable older people have already received social services thanks to our partners, such as USAID, UHF, and others. But the real need is much bigger.

Why Is This Important?

War has not only caused physical destruction but also created new challenges for social protection. Many seniors face multiple vulnerabilities, including displacement, isolation, and deteriorating health. Our project is not a one-time intervention but an ongoing support system that helps every person maintain their dignity, safety, and human connection during these difficult times.

For many older people, the presence of a social worker during the Christmas period may be the only human contact they have — a conversation, a warm meal, or simple reassurance that someone cares. In a time of celebration for many, our work helps ensure that the holidays do not become a season of silence and loneliness for those most in need.

How Does Your Support Help?

Every donation goes directly to:

  • purchasing medicines and medical treatments;
  • providing food and hygiene supplies;
  • organising regular home visits by social workers;
  • supplying rehabilitation aids, etc.

Together, we build a circle of care where everyone has the right to live with dignity and respect.
