"Build Back Better" is one of the priorities of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It defines the need for prudent future development planning, emphasising the possible impact of natural and artificial disasters on recovery facilities, namely, preventing negative impacts.
Right to Protection held a meeting with representatives of Novhorod-Siverska amalgamated hromada, Chernihivska oblast. Maryna Turenok, the Foundation's civil protection consultant, attended the event, as did the Deputy Mayor and representatives from the Department of Economics, Housing and Communal Services, the Department of Investments and Communal Property, Urban Planning and Architecture, and the Civil Protection Sector.
The meeting identified the interim results of project activities in the Novhorod-Siverska community, including measures aimed at building community capacity, raising awareness of environmental hazards, civil protection and restoration of critical infrastructure. The participants received information on the results of the Security and Environmental Risk Assessment in Novhorod-Siverska amalgamated hromada and noted the possibility and feasibility of using the data obtained to develop local planning documents further.
The meeting identified further joint steps in developing a document on the restoration and development of civil protection in the hromada through the "Build Back Better" principle. This document will form the basis for a comprehensive action plan to restore and ensure the sustainability and security of the hromada.

The Comprehensive Action Plan will not only enhance the hromada's resilience and preparedness for emergencies but also ensure an effective response and adherence to the principle of "Building Back Better" in the recovery process.
The meeting participants expressed their support and readiness for further cooperation to ensure the development, recovery and resilience of Novhorod-Siverska hromada.
R2P held the meeting within the framework of the Build Back Better: Prevention, Preparation and Protection of the Population through the Restoration of Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Water Supply, Hygiene and Sanitation Infrastructure pilot project, which is being implemented jointly with partners of the 3Rs Risk Reduction Consortium with the support of ACTED.
