R2P Joins PICUM to Advocate for Undocumented Migrants' Rights

July 11, 2024

Right to Protection has officially become a member of the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), a network of organisations working to ensure social justice and human rights for undocumented migrants. Information about the Foundation is now available on the organisation's official website.

PICUM works on different policy fields and political documents that affect the lives of undocumented people in Europe, as well as those who want to come to Europe. Its members include organisations from over 30 different countries. Key areas of work of PICUM:

  • access to healthcare;
  • fair working conditions;
  • access to justice;
  • borders and detention;
  • undocumented families and children;
  • undocumented migrant women.

By the way, the annual PICUM General Assembly was held in Madrid in May 2024. R2P also participated in it. Ivan Parpan, a lawyer from the Assistance to Stateless Population in Ukraine programme direction, presented information about the Foundation and spoke about our work.

Sofiia Kordonets, Head of the Assistance to Stateless Population in Ukraine programme direction of R2P

Due to the war and migration processes, the number of undocumented people is only increasing both in Ukraine and in Europe. Membership in PICUM will provide an opportunity to actively influence the policy and practice of protecting the rights of undocumented migrants. It will also allow us to establish connections to share knowledge, experience, and best practices with other organisation members.
