Right to Protection has become a member of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness. This platform brings together various organisations working to end statelessness worldwide. The Alliance aims to accelerate the search for solutions to this problem. Its ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the right to nationality without any form of discrimination.

Unfortunately, many stateless people in Ukraine do not have any documents and cannot prove their Ukrainian citizenship because of the war. Joining the Alliance enables us to learn best practices from other countries and join forces to address the problem of statelessness. We hope that we will also be able to engage the state authorities responsible for documenting stateless persons and ensuring their rights in Ukraine.
The UNHCR estimates there are 10 million stateless people worldwide. They do not have documents. According to the UNHCR, before the full-scale invasion, there were 35,000 stateless people in Ukraine. However, the number of such people has increased significantly due to the war.
