Nadiya Kovalchuk, R2P's Program Director, attended the Third Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) in Oslo, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission. The humanitarian agenda for Ukraine was the main topic for discussion at the event.
Nadiya Kovalchuk noted that humanitarian programmes are essential. They support comprehensive solutions to get people out of difficult life circumstances and out of collective centres. Besides, such programmes promote employment and provide access to healthcare, education, and a functioning social protection system.
Housing solutions, such as temporary housing funds and credit solutions, remain critical for IDPs.
The humanitarian sector representatives emphasised the importance of supporting crisis response in the frontline regions, the need for longer assistance projects and more flexibility. They also highlighted the significance of the civil sector and the involvement of Ukrainians in such a decision-making process.
Nadiya Kovalchuk also met with representatives of the Norwegian organisation NORAD, which manages the multi-year Nansen programme to help Ukraine, and Ketil Eik, Senior Adviser at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Section for Humanitarian Affairs.
We thank our partners UNHCR, People in Need, Norwegian Refugee Council, ACTED, and Save the Children for their support and participation in the event.
