The round table "Coordination of humanitarian response in emergencies: overcoming the consequences of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station explosion" was held in Kyiv by the R2P.

At the opening of the event, Oleksandr Galkin, President of the R2P, noted that most of the participants of today's roundtable were involved in direct response to the emergency in Ukraine. That is why it is important to hear the experience of each organization that helped on the ground to develop joint crisis response mechanisms.

 "When the R2P mission arrived in Kherson, we saw how well civil society and the authorities worked together on the ground. And, while it is difficult to find answers to many important questions related to humanitarian response at the international level since the situation in Ukraine is unique, such answers are available in the field," said Oleksandr Galkin.

Cynthia Viveros Cano, Deputy Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Eoin O'Donnell, Deputy Coordinator of the WASH Cluster, and Caroline Haas, Area Director of Central Ukraine of Save the Children International, spoke about humanitarian response in emergencies.

The topic of evacuation was raised by Yulia Krasylnikova, Executive Director of Vostok SOS, and Yevhenia Talinovska, co-founder of Zgraia, spoke about the contribution of volunteers.

Online participants also joined the event via Zoom and a Facebook broadcast. Among them was Artem Mishyn, acting director of the Department of Economic Development of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, who spoke about the role of local administrations in the humanitarian response:

"To eliminate the disaster, the authorities quickly created special joint communication channels with more than 100 partners and conditions of maximum transparency, when everything necessary goes directly to the community. Every bit of your help is invaluable for the Kherson region! Thank you!"

 The event was also attended by representatives of People in Need, ACTED, NGORC, Legal Development Network, UNICEF, IRC, DCA and OCHA. The roundtable was moderated by Tetyana Luzan, Co-coordinator of the Protection Cluster.
