The Role of Dialogue and Mediation During War and Ukraine’s Recovery

December 3, 2024

The conference, The Role of Dialogue and Mediation During War and Ukraine’s Recovery: Drawing on 30 Years of Mediation and 10 Years of Dialogue Experience in Ukraine, was held in Kyiv. Among the participants was Olha Denkovych, Coordinator of the Social Cohesion programme direction at R2P. The conference aimed to promote dialogue and mediation in Ukraine as tools for strengthening social cohesion, supporting reforms, and fostering post-war recovery and development.

During the A Cohesive Hromada: With or Without the Experience of Occupation — Defining Responsibilities and Roles panel discussion, Olha emphasized that dialogue practices in hromadas must stem from the conscious needs and demands of the community itself.

In 2022, R2P conducted its first research on conflicts and sensitive topics among Ukrainian IDPs, host hromadas, returnees, and locals. The organisation continues to monitor and map tension zones in hromadas to ensure sustainable solutions.

Monitoring and mapping the causes of conflicts are key to the effectiveness of dialogue practices and the resilience of their outcomes.

The event was organised by the OSCE Projects in Ukraine in partnership with the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service, the Office of Reforms of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and the National Association of Mediators of Ukraine.
