Right to Protection conducted two two-day training sessions for representatives of Novhorod-Siverska hromada in Chernihivska oblast.
Strengthening Hromada Preparedness and Resilience: Risk Management and Recovery in Emergencies with practical exercises on first aid.
The three two-day trainings were attended by representatives of local authorities. The event was held jointly with the local Training and Methodological Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The training was part of a series of activities to build hromada capacity in civil protection. Particular attention was focused on the processes of economic recovery and rebuilding the country from the consequences of war, emphasising on greenness, sustainability, and environmental impact in the context of the Build Back Better concept.
Participants noted the importance of creating security education and information centres, which local authorities plan to deploy throughout the hromada. This will help inform the population about risks and dangers and provide an opportunity to practice valuable skills in responding to emergencies. Map materials indicating shelter locations, evacuation routes, and sources of risk can play an important role in this.
The first aid training provided by SES of Ukraine representatives helped to increase the hromada's ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
The trainings demonstrated hromada’s high level of readiness to increase its capacity in risk management and civil protection. They emphasised the importance of a comprehensive approach to security and recovery based on the Build Back Better principles. This allows the hromada to respond effectively to challenges and create safe conditions for further development.
The event was conducted by Right to Protection's team within the framework of the Building Back Better — Preventing, Preparing and Protecting Populations by Rehabilitating Sustainable and Environmentally-Friendly Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Infrastructures pilot project, which is being implemented jointly with partners of the 3P Consortium with the support of ACTED to build hromada capacity and raise awareness of environmental hazards, the ability to restore critical infrastructure and civil protection.
