Right to Protection Hosted the First Camp of External Supervisors

August 20, 2024

The first Right to Protection camp of external supervisors took place in the picturesque town of Sataniv in Khmelnytska oblast. These are first-line care professionals: doctors, psychologists, teachers, inclusion educators, and specialists providing social services in hromadas. These are people who have received professional clinical supervision from the Fund.

Eighty participants in two visits could meet, spend time in a familiar circle, get out of the online space, and get to know those with whom they had been discussing cases and sharing their experience of helping people during the war for several months.

The supervisors and the organising team prepared over a dozen workshops for the participants of the Care Camp. Each day, the participants chose two parallels in three lines.

Our goal was to both improve their professional level and care for those who look after others in their hromadas. This Camp is not only about the people with whom the specialists work but also about their mental health and self-care.

Several main themes united all the workshops:

  • awareness of one's needs and finding ways to meet them;
  • existential issues, inner resources and recovery;
  • exploring one's emotions.

Our supervisor, Liudmyla Zhdaniuk, wrote a transformational game, The Journey of the Pink Mouse, based on the book, Who Took My Cheese? This event was the most fun at the Camp and, at the same time, helped the participants explore their attitudes to change.

Discover Your Motivations: The Four Keys to Inner Strength is a highly profound masterclass on exploring the four fundamental motivations, according to Alfred Langlais.

It is a small part of what happened during the three days. Participants also had the opportunity to share their favourite tools and practices and to conduct their own MC. For example, one of the attendees talked about a deck of metaphorical association cards, one of the tools of a psychologist's work. She created this Existential Search deck herself.

Participants generously share their positive impressions of the Camp:

"Thank you very much for the wonderful space for community building. For the food for the body and mind. For the incredible human centredness. For the atmosphere and pleasantness. It was truly the Care Camp ❤️."

"Once again, I want to thank the Camp organisers, trainers, and participants for the relaxed atmosphere, sense of security and communication."

The event took place within the framework of the Comprehensive Services for the Protection of Civilians Affected by Hostilities and Building the Resilience of First Responders (2023–2025) project. The project is implemented by Right to Protection in cooperation with USAID.
