The monitors of the Right to Protection are, without exaggeration, universal specialists. Every month, in the monitoring service digest, we tell you about the most striking stories and events that happened to our colleagues. Read on to find out what exciting things occurred in October.
We continue to promote housing solutions.
In October, R2P’s monitoring groups continued to work on the topic of temporary housing for IDPs in Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions. The monitors actively promoted these issues at meetings with community leaders and key stakeholders and organised events and seminars for local authorities with the participation of the Foundation's lawyers. As a result, 5 communities have decided to create a temporary housing fund, and others are currently developing documents.
Facilitating access to medical care.
A seriously ill IDP had been staying in a local hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk region for a long time. He needed a complicated surgery at the regional hospital, but the man was not transferred there due to the lack of free beds. After learning about this situation, the Foundation's monitor visited the institution and talked to the doctors. Soon, a place for the man was found.
We support the exchange of experience between communities.
At the request of the communities, we organised a "Housing Solutions for IDPs" webinar. The event discussed: the creation of temporary housing funds for IDPs and the formation of a queue; where to look for funding; programmes and criteria of international organisations for housing opportunities for IDPs; alternative ways to solve housing issues for IDPs, such as mortgage lending.
We help with the search for asylum.
Monitors of the Lviv office helped to find accommodation for 9 IDPs living in a religious organisation’s dormitory. Due to funding cuts, the shelter was closed. People were given 2 weeks to find other accommodation. The Foundation's monitor arranged for free accommodation for at least 6 months in another temporary residence.
We support IDP councils.
In October, the first meeting of the IDP Council at the Podil District State Administration in Kyiv was held. The Foundation's monitor spoke at the conference and presented the possibilities of assistance from the organisation. After the meeting, the leadership of the IDP Council visited the Foundation's Kyiv office. There, lawyers and monitors advised the guests on organisational issues of the Council's activities and discussed general issues related to violations of the rights of IDPs and the war-affected population. They also agreed to work together and receive assistance from the Foundation.
