Nadiya Kovalchuk Participated in the Annual Peace and Development Forum

May 13, 2024

On 6–8 May, the annual Peace and Development Forum, organised by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, took place in Stockholm. At the invitation of our partner Mercy Corps, Nadiya Kovalchuk, Programme Director of the R2P, attended the conference. The forum brought together 400 participants from all over the world.

The event discussed what conflict prevention looks like in the modern world, the security system that needs to be changed, and how humanitarian organisations can continue to operate effectively in this complex context.

In her speech, Nadiya Kovalchuk spoke about the complex simultaneity in Ukraine.

Nadiya Kovalchuk, Programme Director, R2P

Ukrainians live in circumstances where dozens of complex and diverse problems must be addressed simultaneously. Preparation for a difficult winter and planning for green reconstruction and post-war recovery. At the same time, we need to be ready to open collective centres for a new wave of internally displaced people and think about how to create conditions for Ukrainians to return from abroad. Develop a new housing policy against the backdrop of cuts in housing payments for IDPs. And other issues do not disappear. At the heart of all this should be the hromada and its residents, who, thanks to their cohesion, are resisting the challenges of war.

We are grateful for the opportunity to represent Ukraine at this event and discuss complex issues that require effective solutions.
