On 27 January a meeting of the Alliance of Ukrainian Civil Society Organizations was held in Brussels to discuss the topic of expanding localisation opportunities in Ukraine for long-term sustainability.
President of Right to Protection — Sasha Galkin spoke at Shaping the Nexus Approach in the Ukrainian Context the panel discussion, which implies coordinated and comprehensive approaches that cannot be limited to meeting humanitarian needs.
Sasha Galkin, President of Right to Protection
The people we support should receive our assistance when they need it. Therefore, humanitarian projects in Ukraine should be more comprehensive and long-term. The Nexus approach should also include a peacebuilding and social cohesion aspect, which is currently underrepresented in humanitarian efforts and responses. The uncertainty of funding has a negative impact on the provision of such services by NGOs.
Among other things, the participants discussed localisation as a bridge between humanitarian response and recovery, as well as the steps to implement it. The importance of continuous institutional strengthening and social protection programmes was emphasised.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share valuable experience and sound proposals to address these issues. Together, we can strengthen Ukraine's humanitarian sector to help as many people as possible.
