Right to Protection team completed the first mission in the Khersonska oblast
7 серпня 2023
Due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant on 6 June 2023, the population of Khersonska oblasts and neighbouring areas of Mykolaivska oblast suffered direct consequences like the flooding of settlements, destruction of buildings, water supply networks, and other infrastructure, loss of property, difficulty in accessing essential services, etc.
To urgently respond and help the population affected by the consequences of the explosion, Right to Protection launched Emergency Response groups that operated in the affected territories of Khersonska and Mykolaivska oblasts.
Working under risky conditions, with people who constantly live under shelling and have undergone the horrors of occupation and flooding, is an experience that is difficult to describe. In the eyes of the residents, there is pain from what they have been through, but at the same time, there is faith that peaceful life will be restored.
Over 6 weeks of work, the Emergency Response groups did everything to provide comprehensive assistance to as many people as possible. These are thousands of stories of resilience, courage, loss, need for support, and faith in tomorrow despite everything.
Here is an overview of the mission's outcomes, particularly the number of beneficiaries who received assistance:
beneficiaries received in-kind assistance, including 1000 hygiene kits and 850 cleaning kits
Our monitors interviewed 149 household representatives during this time to identify the oblasts' most pressing needs and ensure data-driven decisions regarding further assistance.
Anatolii Zadorozhnyi, Head of the R2P's mission in Khersonska oblast.
The prolonged occupation has exhausted people. The catastrophe caused by the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion also impacted the moral, financial, and physical condition of the affected people. For the most part, the consequences of the flooding are being eliminated thanks to the help of volunteers and charitable organisations. People are trying to rebuild their homes, all under constant shelling. The greatest need is for building materials and physical assistance in repairing homes. This is an urgent task because, with the onset of cold weather, the damaged houses will be completely uninhabitable
The mission had been completed, but the specialists were in contact with many residents of Khersonska oblast who could apply for help remotely if necessary.
Special thanks to our partners that made this mission possible.
