R2P and UNHCR Implemented a Housing Programme for IDPs

1 грудня 2023

209 internally displaced families (83 in Kyivska oblast, 59 in Cherkaska oblast, and 67 in Kirovohradska oblast) are able to move into cosy rented flats with developed infrastructure, convenient access to jobs, medical and educational institutions thanks to the UNHCR's rental assistance programme. It aims to support internally displaced families and facilitate their integration after compelled displacement. The assistance reimburses the cost of renting a house for a family for six months. A start-up grant is also provided to cover additional costs when moving or settling in.

The programme includes internally displaced families compelled to move after 24.02.2022, have not yet received targeted rental assistance from international organisations, and belong to one of the following categories of people:

  • reside in a collective centre (CC) and are ready to continue renting housing after the programme is completed;
  • live in a CC that is going to be disbanded;
  • at risk of eviction/loss of rented accommodation;
  • recently displaced families who did not want to live in CCs.

At the same time, the families fell into specific categories of vulnerability. For example, the family is headed by a single or several single older people aged 55 and over; the family includes people with special needs (disabilities, chronic diseases), etc.

The housing programme launched in three oblasts of Ukraine (Kyivska, Cherkaska, and Kirovohradska) has been completed. This project will allow hundreds of internally displaced families to get their desired personal space and be the first step back to a comfortable life.
