Kateryna Dulina is the Head of Mine Awareness Education Teams at the HALO Trust Ukraine and has been with the organisation for 5 years. She was born in Bakhmut, where she worked as an electrical engineer at a power plant before becoming a deminer, dealing with heavy equipment, diagrams and complex technical systems.
Friends advised Kateryna to join HALO. She started as a deminer and spent 1.5 years manually clearing her native territory. She says that it was then that she realised how many people lack basic knowledge of safe behaviour around explosive objects.
After the full-scale invasion, Kateryna joined HALO’s education department. Today, she is the head of the explosive hazard education team and works with a range of audiences, including children and adults.

I enjoy communicating with people, conducting events and answering questions. I believe that after my lecture, people will not put themselves or their families in danger.
Kateryna says that her previous and current professions are united by discipline. Attention to detail was important in her work with diagrams, and now these skills help her plan activities and develop training programmes.

My main goal is to raise awareness as much as possible. I want the information to not just stay in people’s heads after the lecture, but to spread further — among many Ukrainians.
She used to live in Bakhmut and was proud of it. Today, Kateryna lives in Brovary and continues to work so that Ukrainians can live and work safely on their land.
