Helping Andrii and His Mother Start Over

Andrii is 10 years old. Like millions of Ukrainian families, the boy and his mother, Viktoriia, survived the evacuation, leaving their home and everything familiar behind.

Andrii has sensory impairments, meaning that everyday activities, e.g. travelling by bus or other public transport, are challenging for him. However, this does not negate his right to learn, develop, and live his life with dignity and in safe conditions.

In 2023, Andrii and his mother relocated from Selidove in Donetska oblast to Dnipro. A new city, no place to live, confusion and uncertainty about where to go and who to turn to for help.

R2P's experts met with the family last month at their temporary residence. Victoriia asked for help with a visit to the doctor. But behind this simple request lay a whole world of daily difficulties.

Nataliia, R2P's Social Worker:

• organised an examination with the otolaryngologist and an update to the rehabilitation plan;
• helped to arrange a health resort voucher;
• accompanied the mother to the Administrative Services Centre to apply for low-income status.

Little Andrii and his mother dream of having their own home. R2P's team continues to stand by them and support the family.
